v1.2

Minor Versionm

by Adalyn Ordono

Introduction

With Palette 2's improved hardware, the scroll wheel (encoder) is located within the casing. The encoder is important to help calculate the amount of filament fed through Palette 2 and to maintain calibration throughout a print.

Video Overview

  1. Remove the acrylic buffer cover.
    • Remove the acrylic buffer cover.

    • Use a flat-head screwdriver or tweezers to remove the old scroll wheel rubber. The slot on the left of the scroll wheel can be used for more leverage to lift the rubber away.

    • To put the new scroll wheel rubber in place, stretch the rubber around the edge of the central plastic hub. Press down with your finger along the hub to bring the rest of the rubber down back into place.

  2. Turn Palette 2 off and remove the top lid by gently lifting from the sides. Remove the acrylic ingoing cover by loosening the five thumbscrews counterclockwise. Remove the 4 screws holding the bottom casing to the substructure. Two are located at the top two corners of Palette 2 while the other two are under the ingoing cover.

    • Once the screws are removed, grip Palette 2 together by the substructure and bottom casing together and flip so that the screen is facing dow

    • Please remove the SD card before completing this step as damage may be caused to your unit if left in. The substructure is connected to the bottom casing by a bundle of wires. Slowly and carefully lift the casing from the bottom up while ensuring that the wire bundle is not pulled abruptly.

    • To fully detach the bottom casing, unplug the cluster of wires labeled "Main PCB" from the electronics tray, leaving only the substructure.

  3. Remove the 2 screws holding the encoder and detach the scroll wheel ("SW") and "Pong" wire bundle. Replace with new encoder and reattach wiring and bolts.

can you please share a link to the Encoder PCB. i followed all the steps and that is the only thing left... palette 2 pro showed that i need to feed 17000mm more into the extruder.

Watch the video to learn how to replace the wheels, not the board. The wheel has deteriorated.

We’ll have this updated with the steps for the scroll wheel. To remove the scroll wheel rubber, you can use a pair of tweezer or a small flathead screwdriver to lift it away from the middle plastic hub piece.

This says nothing about removing, cleaning or replacing the ScrollWheel.

where will I find that documentation?

So, with a bit of digging here in “answers” and some risky experimentation, I’ve discovered that once the Encoder chip has been removed, you should flip your P2(s) BACK OVER, so you are looking at the face of the palette, but upside down.

Looking down at the scroll wheel, you can now reach your index finger under the substructure to rest it on the black nub that is the hub mount.

Keep the Palette firmly pressed down against your work surface, as you press UP on the “hub nub” with your index finger.

This SHOULD pop the hub and wheel up allowing you to pick it up and out of its depression.

Can you please make the encoder availaible for purchase?

Phillip Perkins - Reply

Hey Phillip, there are very rare instances where an encoder needs to be replaced so we don’t have it readily available on our store (mm3d.co/spare-parts), but if you would like to purchase one, please send us a message at support@mosaicmfg.com.
