v1.5

Major VersionM

by Adalyn Ordono

Introduction

ImportantThe following steps are only for CANVAS Hub units and not DIY Hubs.

In the rare case that your CANVAS Hub cannot be seen while broadcasting its built-in WiFi hotspot, please follow the instructions below. The following steps will reset the code found on your CANVAS Hub and reinstall as if it has just been unboxed by writing a new image file to the CANVAS Hub SD card.

Please note: ensure that you have already tried resetting your CANVAS Hub while moving it closer to your network router. Please also ensure that you have followed the troubleshooting steps here. The following steps should only be undertaken as a final option.

  1. I am trying to factory reset my hub S but the Hub S link above makes me ask for permission to access the google drive . I cannot get the image file so I can flash the unit. Thanks

    Mike F - Reply

Hey Mike, sorry for this inconvenience - the image files have been reuploaded and you should be able to access them now.

  2. Disconnect the power cable from your CANVAS Hub and open it up by inserting a flat head screwdriver under the lip of the lid and prying the top lid off. Gently lift the PCB out of the enclosure. Flip over the board and remove the SD Card.

I have to wonder, if this is an SD card that might need to be accessed by the end user, why not make an external slot for it.

    Eric Corbett - Reply

there is no SD card on my model (Hub S)

    ROQUES - Reply

If you open up the Hub, there should be a microSD card in a slot on the back. If you do not see this card, please take a photo and send us an email to support@mosaicmfg.com so we can arrange an exchange. Thank you!

  3. Insert the microSD card into your computer. An adapter may be necessary.
    • Insert the microSD card into your computer. An adapter may be necessary.

    • Install the application 'balenaEtcher.'

    • Verify which drive your microSD is present on (in this example, our SD card is on the E: drive).

  4. Open balenaEtcher, and click 'Flash from file'. Load the image zip file.
    • Open balenaEtcher, and click 'Flash from file'. Load the image zip file.

    • Once loaded, Etcher should automatically select the drive for your SD card.

    • Select 'Flash!'. The process should take a few minutes to write onto your SD card.

    • Reassemble your CANVAS Hub and follow the guide for setting up your CANVAS Hub. Please note that your new web address is 'ABCD-CH-canvas-hub.local/'.

My flash fails on my hub s. The only thing written is abcd-canvas-hub-s.img with an x above it and flash failed. I have tried different sd cards with the same results.

    james everwein - Reply

Never mind. I used win32diskimager and got my hub s factory reset.

I am having this same problem, when I am connected to the Hub wifi, and open a browser and put 10.0.0.5/ in the address bar I get a 503 Service Unavailable error. Please help.

    Luke - Reply

I flashed the sd, rebooted the Canvas. Now when I connect to the canvas Hub wifi, and go to http://abcd-ch-canvas-hub.local, I get a 503 Service Unavailable

    Carey Dillon - Reply

Could you please try and connect to 10.0.0.5/ while on the Hub wifi?

    Jonny Yeu -

Mini-SD shows as TWO (2) drives after flashing. boot (D:) and SDHC Card (E:). Is this normal?

    Neal - Reply

Yes, that would be fine, we’ve seen it occur in a few instances.

    Jonny Yeu -

I would like to SSH into my Canvas Hub S after completting these steps and I would like to change the serial number back to the original, please can you help me?

    Nathan Blake - Reply

Hi Nathan, in order to do so, we would need to create an image file with a different serial number. Is there any reason why you’d like to revert back to the serial number? It would take a bit of work on our end, and our software team is currently focused on P3.

    Jonny Yeu -

can this web address is 'ABCD-CH-canvas-hub.local be change

    Albert - Reply

Yes, there are ways to SSH into the Hub to do this, but it can be a bit technical. Unless absolutely necessary, we would recommend keeping the ABCD serial number after resetting.

    Jonny Yeu -

i dont see a select image option !

    hanaa habashi - Reply

Hey there, could you please send us a screenshot of what you see on balenaEtcher to support@mosaicmfg.com? There should be an option to select the image file.

Hi Jonny, thank you. I keep getting the issue. After resetting the Canvas-hub I can get the Canvas wifi to work. And was able to get into the Canvas Hub Portal through your suggested 10.0.0.5/.

But when I try to connect the Hub to the local wifi (OctoPrint Settings screen - Network Connection -> Connect) to Configure secure Wifi connection, I first get the screen “Switching Wifi Network” (Canvas Hub is now switching to your configured WiFi connection. etc etc, but I am unable to connect after that. First I get the screen “Server is offline”. Even after giving it 5+ minutes to do its thing and after a while I try “Attempt to reconnect” and then the browser says that the site cannot be reached. I then also notice that my PC Wifi has disconnected from the Canvas WiFi and that the Canvas-Wifi has disappeared from the list of available networks…. Even after unplugging the Canvas Hub this address does not reappear anymore… (abcd-ch-canvas-hub). The ONLY way to make this Wifi reappear is after hard resetting…

Carey Dillon - Reply

Hey Carey, this may be related to the wifi network. Do you know if it’s a 2.4 or 5 ghz network? I’d also recommend checking the steps in this article: https://mm3d.co/canvashub-connection

Jonny Yeu -

After login into its original xxxx-ch-canvus-hub.local address and trying to connect the Canvas to the local Wifi it got ‘stuck’, after refreshing the page I got a “ page not found” or similar, anyway, the Canvas wifi sport disappeared, even after 4-5 minutes, even after rebooting. I finally ended up trying to reset, followed your steps. (I flashed the sd, rebooted the Canvas.) Now when I connect to the canvas Hub wifi, and go to http://abcd-ch-canvas-hub.local, I get a 503 Service Unavailable

No server is available to handle this request.

Any Ideas? Do I need to try it a 3rd time? and should I expect better results?? Any ideas are welcome!

Carey Dillon - Reply

Hi Carey, could you please try and connect to 10.0.0.5/ while on the Hub wifi?

Hub S files wont flash.

Joseph - Reply

Hey Joseph, are you receiving any errors when attempting to flash the Hub S?

Jonny Yeu -

Hey,

After a succes full flash i have tried to connect it to my local network. My computer sees the server and is able to connect with it, but when i want to load the Octoprint page from the server it would not find it and i’v got the message ‘‘ not connected’’. Is there a posibility to get an older version of the image file so i can stil use it with the old code on the sticker?

kind regards

Dave

Hey Dave, yes we can share this with you if you’d like, please send us a message at support@mosaicmfg.com. However, I’ve heard that there were some server issues yesterday, so could you please try and connect again today before attempting to revert?

Jonny Yeu -

I have so much to say to you, the Mosaic brand… But to keep it within boundaries… in my experience, having to reset a hub is 2 out of 9 times, so “rare” feels weak to me… I’ve got 4 hub S’s on my 2 Palette 2S’s and 2 P2Spros, and 4 other plain hubs on my single color machines, with 1 spare plain hub that went into rotation early, because… NOT rare.

You dont make ‘em anymore… you’re slow to update the plugins… should I regret spending thousands to buy into the MOSAIC ecosystem?

I would truely like to engage you, or someone, in non-hostile dialogue about how you intend to support every customer who bought one of your pre-Palette 3 machines, while no longer producing or supporting the equipment they bought.

Aeolus Scarpitta - Reply

Hi Aeolus, thanks for sharing your experience, we’re sorry that you do feel this way. Based on the numerous interactions that we have with customers who have a Hub or Hub S, it is rare that a reset needs to be done, especially multiple times. We do still have Hub and Hub S units available, and we just recently released plugin updates (V3.0.1 for P2 and V3.0.3 for Canvas). We have seen that with recent OctoPrint updates it has caused some issues with the plugins, which is why we’re moving to a more stable system via Canvas to control your printer and Palette 3 instead of continuing to navigate around OctoPrint’s restrictions.

Concerning our support team, please feel free to send us a message at support@mosaicmfg.com and we’d be happy to help. We intend to continue to support Palette 2 users, and still provide support to V1/P+ users on a regular basis. We fully intend to continue supporting all of our customers, regardless of which generation of product that they own.

Jonny Yeu -

*while no longer producing or supporting the platform they bought.

Aeolus Scarpitta -

I recently bought my 4th Hub-S off of matterhackers, since you dont sell them anymore, and it came with octoprint but no CANVAS plugin… the Palette 2 plugin was there, and netconnectd was working fine, but no CANVAS plugin.

So I downloaded and installed balena etcher, downloaded the appropriate disk image, disassembled the hub, reclaimed the memory card, etched the memory card, first etch failed. Reformatted card, reran balena, etch succeeded.

reassembled the hub, powered the server, accessed the server, designated the network connection, restarted the hub, while disconnecting from the hubs spot, and reaccessed the server via the normal means.

set the username & password, and stopping by the Plugins tab, I note that the CANVAS plugin IS present at this stage.

So I moved to update the software, software updated successfully and now the CANVAS plugin is gone again.

Is there a way to stop the update process so it ends the version where the last CANVAS plugin is present? Which version would that be?

Aeolus Scarpitta - Reply

In the rare instance where you’ll need to reset multiple Hubs, you can SSH into the Hub and change the hostname, similar to these steps: https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-host...

Jonny Yeu -

What happens when a 2nd hub needs to be reset. To my knowledge, only 1 hub on a network can be named ABCD-CH.

Is there a way to rename these units once (or as they are being) updated?

Aeolus Scarpitta -

Gotcha. Thanks Jonny

Aeolus Scarpitta -

Apologies for the inconvenience as we’re experiencing issues with V3.0.3 of the Canvas plugin. Please revert back to V2.3.3 at this time and we will have a new release shortly: https://gitlab.com/mosaic-mfg/canvas-plu...

Jonny Yeu -

i also attempted to get the canvas plugin via the plugins manager. (+get more, then input the canvas plugin’s github address, which is no longer in my clipboard), it runs thru the installation, then tells me to restart the server, but when I do… no CANVAS plugin.

what can I do?

Aeolus Scarpitta -

My CANVAS HUB S doesn’t seem to be powering up when plugged into the outlet, but the printer STATUS light starts flashing once I plug the printer into it.

Could You please advice and assist?

Wernich Van der Walt - Reply

Hey Wernich, sorry for the trouble. Could you please reach out to us at support@mosaicmfg.com? We have to send you a replacement power cable.
