    Hi Marcelo, do you have the pings for this print? Pings are Palette's way of sharing calibration information with us, and reviewing these values can provide us with details as to why your print is doing this in the first few layers. To find your pings during a print, please select the menu button on Palette's screen (located on the bottom right corner) and select Ping Offsets. If you're using a CANVAS Hub, you will be able to see these values on the OctoPrint interface. Once you can share this information with us, we'll have a better idea of how to help avoid this issue.

    If you're finding that your first few pings are low, then recovers and stays around 100%, it could be an issue with the bed level. The bed may be sitting too close to your nozzle, causing underextrusion as not enough filament is being extruded. Once enough layers are printed, the calibration of Palette adjusts and results in a calibrated print the remainder of the way.

    Although a possibility Johnny, its is unlikely the problem. Even if it is the bed level, maybe recommend the "Mosaic" fix and if using chroma, make the transition tower larger for initial layers to ensure there is additional filament used on the transition tower for the first few layers to reduce the likelihood of this happening by giving more area to "calibrate" at the start of the print to make up for the under extrusion.

    The reason I provided this advice is because I've seen similar instances in the past where bed leveling has helped to solve this issue. Even with a larger transition tower, your nozzle would under-extrude if pressed too close to the bed, causing lower pings in the first few layers. We can confirm this by reviewing the ping data.

    Well Johnny, as a customer support agent you could of made a couple of basic (and reasonable assumptions) that would of potentially helped work out the most likely problem in order to then provide some "support". All you did is suggest they look at the ping offsets, no "advice" or "support" provided.

    Firstly, one would assume the customer has had this happen more than once and probably spent considerable time watching the start of the print to see if they were doing something wrong or something was jamming etc. This would of meant the customer was watching the extruder and would of more than likely noticed any skipped steps (has to be pretty major skipped steps to have whole layer colours out of whack). Add to the fact this was in the first few layers so there would of had to of been a "Lot" of skipping to be out by so much, something I am sure they would of looked into before making a post about it. 

    Secondly, if the first layer was looking ok (again something that is reasonable to assume considering the print completed) and there is no massive elephants foot on the model in the picture, so using some basic deduction, there is little chance of the nozzle being too close and slowing the extrusion down enough to cause colour shifts (again there would be a bunch of extruder skipping). In the case the first layer was too close causing some slowdown in extrusion, there is a setting in Chroma to help with this. The setting increases the size of the transition tower for the initial layers (first 10 layers from memory) to allow additional transition length to make up for a little under-extrusion as a result of first layer being too close. It also gets the filament length past 5m quicker (if set correctly) so the feedback loop can kick in and adjust any variance in filament progression that may have occurred on the first layer before you get too many layers in (even better when used with side transition purges).

    The third option here is you need to change transition tower length (longer) and also change the transition point which may need to be increased or decreased dependant on if the next colour is coming in too early or too late (default is 40%, I personally use 15%). Colour too early then make the percentage larger, colour too late then reduce it and make transition length longer.

    Hello Jonny,

    I'm having the exact same problem here, I'm curious if you were able to work out a solution with the original poster? My print had a lot of mix up in the first few layers, then an odd mix up about 20 layers up, after that it was fine. The print failed for other reasons (not related to Palette) later. 

    Here are my pings up until print failure. Any help would be much appreciated. I will post pictures as well.

    Hey Jesse, taking a look at your pings, they are not very consistent, which is likely causing the issues that you're seeing here. Have you run an extruder calibration recently? We find that this guide is the best to complete this: https://mattshub.com/2017/04/19/extruder-calibration/

    Could you please also post pictures of your printer/Palette setup? We've seen some instances where Palette's tubing is loose, causing variability in pings because the filament path is not consistent.

    Yes, they are not very consistent, so I was trying to figure that out. Raised the temperature of my hotend by 15 degrees, from 190 -> 205, that is giving much more consistent results in the pings. Still getting random layer mix ups though although the bottom layers seem to be better though, go figure. I will post again to show the layer mix ups with the more consistent pings.

    I would run through a extruder calibration. If you have a solid extruder calibration your pings should work themselves out.

    Oh right, yes I forgot to mention, my extruder is already calibrated. I've adjusted the esteps, got it to within 1/2 mm accuracy on a 100 mm extrude. Should be good enough I'd think.

    So your current workflow if PursaSlicer to Chroma correct. If you like Slic3r  you may want to look at the plugin

    Yes, I had seen that, so I may have to take the time now to get it set up, I was just using Chroma because it works for the most part.

    I did end up figuring out my layer problems, it was just that my extruder wasn't accurate enough. I upgraded to a Bondtech BMG, now my pings are all within 0.5% for the most part, once in a while there will be a ping that's 1% off. I haven't had a single layer slip yet ** knock on wood **
