Starting a New Project
From the CANVAS side menu or projects menu, click on the New Project button.
Compatible file types/how to find a model
STL files can be uploaded to CANVAS (future versions will also allow OBJ models). You can find multi-color/material models on our Thingiverse page, or you can design your own using CAD software. You can also import single color models, and paint them in CANVAS.
Single Color Projects and Multi-Material Projects
To start a single color project, start a New Project and either select Drop Single Material Models Here or simply drag the desired STL file into this field.
To start a multi-material project, start a New Project and either select Drop Multi-Material Models Here or simply drag the desired STL files into this field.
Once models have been uploaded, they can be translated, rotated, and/or scaled. Currently, you will be able to make these placements by entering a value, increasing and decreasing values incrementally, or using tools on the model. Models will be auto-placed to lay flat on the bed.
When working with multi-material projects, the transition tower will be auto-generated once colors are selected to each body.
Grouping and Ungrouping Models
Select multiple models in the object browser by holding ‘Shift + Left Click’ on the models. Click the link button on the bottom of the object browser to group or ungroup the models selected.
Duplicating a Model
Click the model you would like to duplicate, and then click the copy button on the bottom left of the object browser.
From left to right, the color swatches represent Drive 1, Drive 2, Drive 3, and Drive 4.
Click the swatch to open the material selector. Select the color you’d like to use and click Save. Click and drag the swatch to the body on the bed, or drag to the file name on the object browser to color the specific body.
The Settings screen will open the default settings from the Style Profile you selected, but can be further modified for this particular project.
The settings saved here will be used for the print.
Preview: Slicing and downloading
When you’re happy with your project, the Preview screen will allow you to slice, preview the toolpaths, read the print summary, and download your model.
Click the Slice button to generate the tool path preview. After you’ve sliced the project, you can go back to the Project Dashboard to download it again.
Click the Download button and your project will be compressed into a zip file and will begin to download. You'll receive a G-Code file if you created a single color print, or the SEEM file and modified G-Code file for Palette if you created a multi-color/material print.
Once these files are downloaded, you're ready to start the first print!
