Widening the Scroll Wheel Tubing

Please note that this article applies to users who have the scroll wheel model indicated here, where there is a visible gap on each side of the top bearing.

When first loading filament into your printer's extruder, it's best to ensure that the first piece of filament is straightened in order to avoid catching onto any parts of Palette.

One of these parts is the Teflon tubing inside your scroll wheel, where filament can catch onto the edge and cause a kinked tube. This will make it harder to load filament when first starting a print.

To widen this, you can use a tool to flare this opening. For example, a #2 cross tip screw driver can be used and spun while pressing the tip into the tube end to reshape the cone end of the guide tube.

Carefully slide the tube back into your scroll wheel, being careful to not kink it again or change the position of the rubber wheel in the encoder shaft.
