Introduction

Variable Transition Lengths are useful for prints when you're using filaments that are very different from each other—like the black and white filaments in this penguin print.

When this happens, it's ideal to have a longer length to transition from black to white as the black filament could easily bleed into the white portions of the print. However, the transition from white to black could be shorter as this causes less chance of bleeding. Variable transition lengths help to reduce colour bleed by optimizing transition lengths for each filament.

  1. Turn on Advanced Settings in Chroma by going to Tools > Preferences > Enable Advanced settings. Go to the Transitions tab in your Printer Profile to set a Min and Max Transition Length.

    • On Chroma's main screen where you select the drive colors, you'll notice a slider which allows you to select each color's pigment strength. The transition length that is used between these filaments will be adjusted based on the two colors' strengths.

Hey @hal, transition in infill is a project setting in CANVAS that allows some of the transitions to be done within the infill of your model. This is a great option if you want to save some filament (mm3d.co/filament-waste). In terms of supports, the article for supports in CANVAS can be found here, where we go over basic, custom, and soluble supports: mm3d.co/supports-in-canvas
