Calibration and filament loading issues.

I recently picked up a V1.0 Palette secondhand.

I updated the firmware and tried to calibrate the palette but have ran into issues.

The first issue I was having was with calibration. I get through part of the calibration just fine but after it does a splice it extrudes a little bit then stops and gives me the instruction to hold the magnet to the palette to extrude more. I do this and nothing happens. The red LED lights up when the magnet gets near but it doesn’t extrude more. That is as far as I can get with calibration.

The second issue I am having is error 302 from a piece of filament snapped and got stuck. I followed the guide to get that taken care of but now when I go to do the calibration it pulls filament from slot 1 and keeps going until the filament can no longer go into the palette. The palette won’t stop trying to load and the stepper motor just clicks because the filament cannot go any further.

Can anyone give me some help figuring this out?

Hey Jacob, there’s a few things I’d like to check with you:

  • When running calibration and pushing the magnet towards Palette, it should cause the filament to pass Palette’s scroll wheel, which will tell Palette to create more filament. Is your Scroll Wheel plugged into Palette?
  • To check if your Scroll Wheel is responsive, please go to System Info on Palette’s screen. While on this screen, you can manually rotate Palette’s Scroll Wheel and you should see the Encoder value change.
  • Concerning the 302 error, this is likely an issue with the Opto sensor that is located right next to the cutter wheel. I would suggest removing this piece and checking the Opto T, the acrylic piece that is attached the to Opto:

  • If the Opto is scratched, it could be causing some issues with detecting filament. While the Opto is removed, please also use compressed air to clean the area, helping to ensure that filament or other debris is cleared from the filament path./

If you continue to experience issues, please send me an e-mail at jonny@mosaicmfg.com and we can continue to troubleshoot.
