Not able to adjust supports to print with enough strength on tall item

I’m trying to print a tall model. With canvas I can’t get the tall supports to use a raft or rim or thicker in the horizontal in settings. When the support is tall they break off as too thin so eventually give way. When it get to @ 40-50mm above the bed the support start to give way.

Hey @neergh888, thanks for reaching out about this. Could you share this project with us (instructions here) so we can take a look on our end? Thanks!

Update (01/26/2021)

Hey @neergh888, thanks for your patience with this. The only way to get a raft under the supports is to use a raft for the entire print. That being said, Canvas makes the first support layer denser automatically to try and help with this issue. If you prefer not to use a raft for the entire print, please enable “reinforcement layers” as this setting is designed to help with supports not becoming flimsy as they get taller.

Hi, share link for the little chap! I could print him horizontally but makes it a tight fit on the bed. https://share.canvas3d.io/projects/8fbe5...

Hi, Many thanks for your advice. I’ll try the raft if it adds support to the supports can only be a good thing. I’ve had 3 prints fail so hope it helps.

What des the tick box ‘generate support interfaces above raft’ in the raft settings can’t select the option and wondered what it was used for?

No problem Harry, to access this option, you will need to enable dense support interfaces (as well as a raft and supports). This option will place support interfaces between the top of the raft and the bottom of the model. This can help with creating a raft, as well as printing with solubles, allowing you to use less soluble material overall.
