Palette 2 pushing out way to much filament before loading into printer

I have a palette 2 and a original prusa mk3s. Palette has been working flawlessly for the last 5 months. Now recently after I reset the palette, when it creates the first amount of filament for the printer it makes to much. I’ve had times where it will make 50 mm to much and I’ve had times where it makes 2 meters to much. I’ve also had times where it is telling me to put it in the extruder gears, but its still pushing out more filament and I have to cancel it to get it to stop. I have re-calibrated multiple times, after the first time re-calibrating it started working for a couple keychains, but its back to pushing out to much.

reflashed the latest firmwear, reset the LO/HM, Re-ran calibration new numbers ar 2.66/40.58, put in the palette 2s upgrade i had, and still getting the same thing happening on the Very first print, it pushed out about 400mm extra of filament out of the tube. Worked great for the first 6 months, now it seams to be a very expensive brick.

Hey @johnsy, thanks for reaching out about this. In order for us to start troubleshooting, could you please tell me:

  1. Are you using a CANVAS Hub (S)?
  2. Can you test the health of all your switches by going to Settings -> About -> Next -> Next, and making sure that each switch says “Not Pressed” when there is no filament running through it, and “Pressed” when there is filament running through it? You can use Controls -> Motion for this step.

It also looks like your PPM is a little too high. This could be okay if it never caused you an issue in the past, so I’m just wondering if your previous PPM was around 40 as well?

I am using a raspberry pi 3, all the switching are reading correctly. and my ppm on the previous recalibration was 39.42

Hey Jason, thanks for letting me know. A few months back, we saw a similar issue with SmartLoad due to Prusa's new firmware. It has since been resolved via an OctoPrint update - could you make sure you are up to date on the OctoPrint page? Did you update the firmware on your printer before you saw this issue occur?

A few more questions to get to the bottom of this: when Palette makes too much filament, does it stop eventually or does it make filament continuously? When you reset Palette to factory defaults, what do you select as the size of your outgoing tube?

I have not updated the firmware in over a year, I could if you think we should? I will try to update Octoprint tomorrow night (currently have a print going), and will let you know if it works or not. I have had times when it stops making filament after a foot and a half extra, and I've had times where I shut it off after it pushes out 6 feet of filament. and yes I always make sure to select the medium outgoing tube size.

@johnsy Thanks for letting me know - if there are instances where Palette pushes out filament continuously without stopping (and your SPC/PPM values are within range), then this is likely an issue with your homing switch. If you could email me your shipping address and order ID (or receipt) to alina@mosaicmfg.com, then I can send you a replacement homing switch.

as of right now I updated my printers firmware, and it is currently working. I don't think it was the homing switch cause it was doing it when it was just a p2 and I installed my p2s upgrade to see if that fixed it and it didn't. i'll do a bunch more keychains and earbud holders and let you know.
