keychain calibration error in middle color change

Hi!

I’m a S3D+P2S + Chroma+ Canvas Hub on connected mode user.

I’m trying to calibrate my pallet. I was able to make a perfect keychain except by the middle transition. As can be seen on the photo i stopped the print as soon I realize that was wrong.

The color change occur on the model and not on the tower. The color change occur in the layer below that I stop.

Any suggestions? This inner color change must be perfect for my use.

Best Regards

Matheus

Hey @matheussavi, thanks for reaching out. If there is no colour change on your transition tower, this is likely because you stopped extruding too late after you saw your keychain colour appear (step 6 here), which we would call “overloading”. Can you reset Palette to factory defaults (settings -> preferences -> reset) and run the keychain once more, except this time, please make sure to manually extrude after you insert the white filament and your keychain filament, rather than using the auto-load function? That should help to stop extruding immediately when you observe the colour change. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Alina!

Thank you for your response.

So, I calibrate again and made a few tests but all keeps the same.

I noted something strange.

The sequence is model => tower => model => tower every layer but just before the error occurs the sequence is model => tower => tower => model => model.

In the tower => tower seems that the z is not change and its possible to hear extruder scraping in the tower.

Pings are around 102.

I sincerely do not know what to do next.

Thank you

Hey Matheus, could you share this CANVAS project with me please (instructions here: mm3d.co/canvas-sharing)? Please make sure to share the model, as well as the printer profile. Thanks!

Hi! I Do not use CANVAS, I use S3D+Chroma.. How should I proceed? Thanks

Hey Matheus, sorry about that - could you send a screenshot of your loaded and coloured model in Chroma? I'd like to make sure it was coloured correctly. However, it still seems like the main issue here is overloading. Are you manually extruding your keychain filament after you have inserted a separate piece of white filament in your extruder? Are you also resetting to factory defaults before every keychain so Palette treats it as your first print? If you could provide the full ping data for your latest keychain, that would be really helpful as well. Thanks for your patience.

Hi!

Facts that I noted since yesterday:

1) After reassemble Bowden extruder the problem about color change vanished. I think that even producing a good model it was under extruded and as consequence the transition occur after the right position.

2) the act of extrude two times in the same layer in tower occurs only in keychain model. After get keychain 2 colors and 4 colors works fine with mean ping around 100.7 I tried other model and bingo, the error did no occur. So it seems that the problem may be in the keychain model. I dont know.

I realize that my comment from morning is missing. Did you get it?

In any case the Gdrive link is available with gcode and mcf and a GIF showing the error occuring in the planning. ( https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1... )

As you asked, the screenshot

About the manual extruding, it was made as the tutorial and the instruction from pallet.

So, for now my problem is solved but the same layer dual extrusion doubt remains.

Matheus

Hey Matheus, thanks for sending that over. Your keychain in Chroma looks correct. If the pings were within 5% of 100 (accuracy) , and within 1-2% of each other (consistency), then you should be well calibrated and you do not have to redo the keychain print. We suggest moving onto the earbud or coaster print (step 8 of mm3d.co/firstprint) to "train" your Palette. Let me know if you run into any issues with these prints!
