Multi spool mode slow down while splcing

Hi, i want to use my Pallet 3 Pro with a large format printer. The printer uses a Duet board and i am able to connect and control the printer via the Palette.

I have no interest in mixing colors or materials with the palette. I just want to use it in multi spool mode so it can continue printing when one spool runs out. The issue i am having is that the buffer in the palette is too small and for some reason it will not reduce or set the printspeed to the desired printspeed % while splicing that i set in the palette.

Am i doing something wrong?

Cheers,

Max.

Hi Max,

Thanks for your question. The slow down while splicing feature is only available for calibrated prints in Connected Mode, so unfortunately you won't be able to use this feature in Multi-Spool Mode.

In this case it sounds like you'll need to reduce the print speed, or otherwise reduce the rate of extrusion, so that Palette can keep up with the printer when splicing. If you'd like to share any further details for the print, such as the print settings you're using I can advise further.

Thank you!

Hi Guy,

Well this is sad to hear... i dont understand why this is not communicated more clearly on the web page. Could this be added in a future update? A pause/unpause command would also work.

Slowing down the printer kind of defeats the whole point of having a 1.4mm nozzle and large format machine. So this is not an option.

Thanks.

Hi Max, we've added this information to the Slow Down While Splicing page, apologies that this wasn't more clearly communicated before.

This feature will only be available in connected mode, as Palette needs USB connection to control and slow down the printer. I'm afraid that it therefore won't be added to multi-spool mode, in which Palette operates independently.

Regarding the 1.4mm nozzle, this nozzle size will create a much higher flow of filament than Palette is typically intended to be used with (nozzles of around 0.4mm). With such a large nozzle, you would need to greatly reduce the print speed in order for Palette's buffer to keep up while splicing. Otherwise, you would need to use a smaller nozzle.

I understand that this isn't the answer you're hoping for, so my apologies. As I say, it seems that you'll need to make some adjustments to either your setup or settings in order to use Palette 3 Pro in this case.

Guy,

Thanks for updating the page. This could help other users in the future.

Like i said in a previous misssage, I have the printer connected and they are talking. I can move the printhead/set temperatures etc via the pallette. I undertand that for multi material and/or color printing you need to run the gcode via the palette. However the multi spool mode has nothing to do with the gcode as the palette cannot predict when the filament from a spool will run out. This action has to be done on the fly. Because of this, why would this action be any diffrent to when the printer is connected but not recieving the gcode from the palette?

Could you please add the slow down feature to multi spool mode IF the printer is connected BUT isnt printing gcode via the pallette? I think this would be a very usefull feature, not only for me but also for others that dont wish to use your slicer.

Cheers,

Max.

Hi Max, thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately I'm not sure it will be feasible to add slow down while splicing to multi-spool mode, but I will pass your feedback on to our engineering team as a feature request.

If there's anything else we can help with, please let us know!
