TPU Support update when?

I bought the Palette after seeing it listed as TPU compatible. Its on the spec sheets and on the features page. It seems now after purchasing its only PLA compatible?

Update (06/02/2022)

I guess I’ll bump this again?

I am a bit concerned with the phrasing “and will likely be supported” I bought the palette with the sole intention of splicing TPU. I figured it would work based on the spec sheet (link below) stating that TPU is supported. So am I just stuck with a $799 device that cannot perform the tasks laid out in the spec sheet?

Hi Wes, I apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing you! TPU isn’t currently supported but our team is in the process of testing this and will likely be supported in a future firmware update however the ETA on this isn’t available yet.

For the record this was originally and is still being promised in your marketing materials:
”Multi‑Material 3D Printing

Achieve high-quality, functional prints with flexible or rigid materials, or simplify prints with challenging overhangs using breakaway or soluble support.”

Has there been an update to the TPU compatible firmware? Will it be released soon?

@fatima Randy & Wes’s point is you cannot advertise it as a feature and then not provide it.
And it is not a cheap device either. By looking at all the issues people have I don’t think it is worth paying $900 for a device that still has many issues.

This is not acceptable :-(

Just a thought, but what if it is just not possible with the physical design of the Palette3? A lot of people are still failing with basic PLA, and firmware fix will make flexibles work?

We keep hearing that they are working on a firmware fix, I would like to understand what more can be done beyond the current control of temperature, compression, and cooling? Can Mosaic at least give us a hint what the biggest hurdle is and how they are trying to get around it? Is it the splices? Is it the path through the palette? Can they give us anything?

The ability to do materials other than PLA has been part of the Palette 3 advertising from day 1, and the ability to handle flexibles is still on their marketing page. Think of how long they have had to work this out. Now think of their track record and lack of transparency and ask yourself what they would do if they had determined it is just not possible. Would they admit it? They just raised the price $100, it would be hard to admit that such a key feature will never happen.

I hope they make me eat my words, but that seems unlikely.

I agree!

But they don't want to because they know people will stop buying it.

Who will buy something once they admit they can't support it.

by

I had asked that very question early on after I tried printing with TPU, it seemed like there were multiple challenges with the design of the P3. However, they said it was not a hardware limitation and it would be supported with a software update - that was 8 months ago. Because of their advertising, that TPU would be supported, was the main reason I bought it.

When can we expect the TPU support that was advertised before I even purchased the P3P?

It’s never coming. At this point I see the palette product as a scam, they made a laundry list of promises and did not deliver on them. Any time I’ve tried to request a return I get ghosted.

Wow, I was thinking about getting one of these, but TPU is also the primary use for this for (same as you FPV drones). Thanks for the heads up guys, I’ll be looking elsewhere for a multi-color tpu solution

Crap I need to return mine. I thought TPU was supported, after fighting with it for hours I came here to the sad realization that the product information is not true. Anyone have luck returning their P3 or P3P after finding out? I primarily print TPU, I have a Palette paper weight :(

@jonnyyeu I'm interested in purchasing a P3P, but I'm hesitant to invest in a brand that is falsely advertising support in the spec sheet, provides little communication about the progress of supporting these guarantied features, and even further doesn't open source the firmware for the community to help fix these issues.

What is the status of TPU support for the P3(P)? What other materials on the spec sheet (PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, PVA, HIPS) are not supported in the P3(P)? Is there a better communication channel to get this transparency?

Hey Mike, we do have a firmware available for use with flexibles, I'd be happy to share this with you if you are interested in printing with TPU. Concerning the rigid filaments that you listed, we are compatible and many customers have been able to print with combinations of these materials. You would just need to run Splice Tuning before attempting any prints in order to create optimal splices (anything between 1.65-1.85mm).

by

Hey @jonnyyeu, it seems that the firmware you provided people a little less than 2 months ago had issues with multiple filaments with no response from the Mosaic team about resolving these issues?

by

Hey Mike, if a user is having issues with the firmware, we usually ask them to reach out via e-mail (support@mosaicmfg.com) as we would need to review photos/videos, along with other unit specific information such as the SPM and splice tuning numbers. For example, we had a FB user who shared their details in the comments along with a picture of their successful TPU print: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mosaic.u...

by

Thanks for the details; it feels a bit counterintuitive for support to occur outside of the dedicated support forum. For all intents and purposes, an outsider looking in would see this feature still as unsupported, especially since it hasn't gain enough traction to have an official/stable firmware release yet.

by

@seesemichaelj That's fair! We're happy to help on the forums as well, but sometimes it takes some back and forth between our team and a user, and because of that, e-mail threads are usually easier to track and update. However, we can definitely provide support here on the forums if that's preferred.

@jonnyyeu I just wanted to report back that I've been doing successful TPU prints using 95A Sainsmart with these settings:
SPM 104
Heat +1
Compression +3
Cooling +8

I am looking forward to an official firmware release though so I don't have to keep ignoring the Firmware update available message.

Hey Ryan, thanks for the update, the prints look great!

by

@aerialpixel I tried your settings, and I was finally able to get a successful TPU print! THANK YOU!

by

Glad to help! Those same settings have worked well for me for several months... as long as I don't use crappy TPU. Sainsmart and Yoyi have both worked well for me. Just look for nicely wound spools, spools that are wound wavy tend to not get good compression as the nice straight wound stuff.

Is there a timeframe on when the fixes for TPU in 22.09.14 and hopefully some other updates will be generally available?

Hey Randy, there's no set timeline currently, but it will likely be later this year.

by

Is later this year for the "full release" or the next "test firmware" ?

by

We would likely need to release a test one first then, based on feedback from users and internal testing, we'd release a full update.
