Assistance with QIDI X-Max with Palette 3 Pro

I have a Palette 3 Pro and a QIDI X-Max, I have installed the TTL cable and I am able to connect to the printer from Palette. It will turn on my heaters and move the Extruder and Bed around in the chamber but it will not print direct from the Palette to the Printer other then what I have said above? Does this config require Octa-Print on Pi or is this supposed to work? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Hey everyone, we have a new test firmware that should help with connection issues seen by Qidi printers. If you’d like to try it, please send me an e-mail at jonny@mosaicmfg.com and I would be happy to share the file.

I have the Qidi X-Plus and have held off buying the Mosaic Palette 3 Pro because I'm unsure of the compatibility even in Accessory Mode. I would prefer to connect it any way with an additional USB port connected to the control board, which would seem a relatively easy modification.

I did the same but my wife ended up getting me one and it's worked great. I don't have your exact qidi but I have 3 other qidi printers and they all work with accessory mode. If you have any questions or want me to try something just let me know and maybe I can help.

I currently have my X-max hooked up to the Pallette 3 in connected mode and have tried Firmware V4.2.6.1 and now I am on V4.2.10.1. No go so far but willing to try this update or test firmware from Jonny@mosaicmfg.com... will update once tested.

Hey Mike, sorry to hear you are experiencing issues. The Qidi printers unfortunately are currently incompatible with Palette in connected mode. This is something our team is currently looking into and we apologize for the inconvenience. You can still use your Palette in accessory mode however!

This is extremely frustrating as everything you all had listed was that the canvas hub supported octoprint plugins and then the new palette "with canvas hub built in" doesn't support octoprint plugins!!!!

Look at your own spec sheet!

"Built-in Canvas Hub Functionality Yes"

"Built-in Canvas Hub for improved connectivity"

Anyway - rant over. Here's likely what's is going wrong if your devs haven't figured it out. The QIDI firmware don't support identify their machines correctly and don't support certain gcode commands that other printers do. Here's the breakdown:

I was told it was compatible by support and is listed ad compatible on the web site. So, I have two paperweights till I get this figured out.

I have this same issue (as described in my previous forum posts and direct email to Mosaic). I referred the devs several weeks ago to descriptions of “CBD firmware,” and the plugin that solves this problem for Octoprint and the Palette 2. This issue is common to many Chinese brand printers that use what appears to be Chitubox based firmware. I was told they are working on it.

If you try to run your Qidi printer in Connected Mode with the P3, it seems unresponsive. If you let it run for a LONG time, you will likely find it executes one line of gcode every several minutes. I believe this is due to unanticipated messages from the printer filling the incoming buffer of the P3. My guess is the P3 doesn’t know what to do with what it interprets as repeated Wait messages as the printer executes the active gcode. There are a couple other issues the plugin addresses, according to P2/Octoprint discussions.

Since many, like myself, are repeat Palette purchasers who bought the P3 because it was listed by Mosaic as compatible with our Qidi printers, I expect Mosaic will prioritize a firmware fix, else they will be forced to accept returns.

I’m not sure how many people that were on here still have their palettes but for anyone new…. Running the palette 3 in accessory mode has been working pretty well for me. While you can’t kick off prints remotely or wirelessly, if you have a custom octoprint setup then using accessory mode might actually be a pretty good option as you can keep using your custom setup.

Just wanted to toss my 2 cents in. Even if they fix the connected mode I might keep using it in accessibility mode.
