How do I connect a 3d printer running klipper?

My printer runs klipper firmware. How do I connect it to my Palette 3 Pro?

Hi @vorchak, Palette 3 Pro is not yet compatible with Klipper for connected mode printing with USB. It would be best to use accessory mode for now, I apologize for any inconvenience.

Update (12/07/2022)

Hi everyone, just looking to pick up where I left off here with this thread.

Another one of our customers @thatguy shared this idea to do network pinging for accessory mode with Klipper. This appears to be more feasible for our team to work on in the new year. Although it's not a full connected mode experience we do hope it can be valuable for everyone here. Ideally this could remove the need for pausing in order to ping and help improve calibration. If this is something you would be interested in using for Palette 3, please let me know. You can either vote on this reply as a yes or leave a comment if you have other questions, thank you!

Update (01/18/2023)

There has been plenty of interest shown for improved connectivity with Klipper, and we are working with P2PP to allow network pinging in accessory mode (as proposed in a different forum thread), with the aim of improving calibration. This different method of pinging will mean that calibration can be communicated in a different way, which does not have to solely rely on extrusion like in traditional accessory mode pinging.

Thanks, is there a plan and timeline for klipper based printers to be supported? Withe the Canvas Hub I used to be able to do it.

by

Many of my higher end printers use klipper, so I look forward to a way to support it.

by

Not yet compatible implies there are plans to add connectivity options.

Are there any such plans? What kind of interfaces can we expect the P3P to support in the future?

by

Has there been any progress on Network pinging with P2PP?

by

To be clear, this replaces the gcode ping signature with a network ping, which is great, considering how important the pings are, BUT this is not connecting the palette with klipper. You still have to send gcode to your printer separately, and the palette has no control over your printer (can't start or stop or pause a print job, etc).

Moasic: please correct me if I am wrong.

It's easy for the Mosaic team to integrate Klipper in P3P, but for some reason, they are not keen on Klipper compatibility.

If the Palette uses a raspberry pi (or something similar), then how about running klipper and fluidd right on the Palette? Too bad things are not a little more open.

Hi @aordono, any updates on this ticket? Can the canvas hub be set up to use Klipper? Alternatively can a different Pi be set up to control the Palette 2 and Klipper?

Hi @manpoozle, I'll be forwarding your inquiries to the team and they will get back to you soon with an update. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience while waiting for a response.

by

Hello @manpoozle, with regards to Palette 2 only, there is a Klipper module that will support connection between P2 and the printer, you can learn more about this here:

by

Thanks @aordono, has anyone from your team tried to run Klipper with Palette?

by

I have a klipper printer, and i’m sort of too scared to get a palette 3 pro because it won’t be compatible with my huge klipper ender. I really wish they’d update this asap. The likelihood of this being so early in development is beyond my imagination but that gives me more hope really

by

I’m going to try calling mosaic support for this and see before i spend $450 on a palette 2 pro i wouldn’t need in 2 weeks

It definitely feels like Mosaic has already coughed it’s death rattle and we’re all on a train to nowhere together.

I was also looking into buying a Pallette but the lack of responsiveness in this thread doesn't bode well for Klipper users even though there's a clear demand for this. I'm going to hold off on buying because of that.

Is there any update at all?

by

Plus there are comparable alternatives now that do not require filament splicing

by

@vorchak yes and the alternatives are also much cheaper in comparison. you could buy 4 VERY DECENT hotends and toolchanging hardware for under 300 today

i'd say this means that mosaic really has spliced their last bit. they are probably entirely off the community support thing. glad i didn't give them any of my money directly! seriously though i am plain disappointed that they haven't so much as updated on this for months... much less try to implement klipper or attempt to tell us if it really isn't compatible (there's no way it isn't)

Any update of this ticket??

I want to buy a P3P to run with my Klipper printer.

There has been no update from Mosaic. And I cannot make the new P3P to work with Klipper. The old P2P still had a workaround.

I also have a Palette 3 Pro that literally collects dust because my printers are all running on klipper firmware. I'm commenting to hopefully add to the demand for Klipper support on the P3P

$800 for a device that can't interface directly with one of the most popular printer firmwares is a bit ridiculous. +1 disappointed customer...

Literally just got mine. Wish I had done a bit more research on printer compatibility. I didn't dream that this wouldn't be compatible with klipper firmware and not just the ping/pong, full intergration with klipper. How is this still the case 1 year down the line....
