Slicer Fine Detail Preservation

I’m trying to torture Canvas/KISSlicer with a complex 7-color model, and I am just not having luck with fine details.

I’ve played with the gap fill and other settings as some of the features are very small, but others are part of larger bodies that are just causing messy tool paths.

I also don’t see any options to tell the slicer to use a specific material for supports when printing on top of the main body, only the interface to support the body. I would greatly prefer to use an inexpensive filament for a majority of supports and only soluble supports at the interfaces.

Any suggestions to fix the fine detail issues?

Hi @thatguy, apologies for the delay here. I had an issue with importing your project which has since been resolved and I had a chance to take a closer look.

There are some limitations with painting and achieving finer details when going to print. With a standard 0.4mm nozzle some of those smaller regions will be tougher to generate sufficient paths for. After looking at the project, you can get better paths by actually painting outside the lines and extending the painted region. By doing this you’re creating a larger surface area for the painted regions which in turn can create better toolpaths. During painting even though the edge may appear jagged, after slicing it should atleast soften or round off those edges. I know this doesn’t fully address not being able to print fine details, but it can help improve the print results so these colored areas are more visible.

With regards to the supports, it sounds like you may have already found this guide on interface supports, but could you point out which region of the supports you are looking to select a drive for?

Thanks Adalyn, the support question is better detailed in this post:

Interface Layer Settings, Top Side of Part

Sorry to hear the fine details are not well captured by the painting tool. I do see that the slicer performs better when the regions in the model are natively different bodies.
