Replacing Prusa MMU2S with Palette 3

I 'm still waiting for my Palette 3 on the very slow boat from China, but I'm trying to prepare as best I can for the day when it arrives.

I currently have a MMU2S attached to my Prusa Mk3S+ and the PTFE tube connecting the MMU2S to the extruder has a festo plug at both ends (I assume this is standard).

I was wondering whether an alternative solution to an answer already given some time ago in the forum would be to put a festo plug onto the end of the tube from the Palette and directly screw that onto the existing festo socket on the extruder? If not, why not?

Hi Chris,

That’s a great question, the printer end of the tube should be ok, as long as the fitting accepts 4mm PTFE tubes although sometimes the fittings are a bit tight around the filament and might add more resistance for the printer pulling the filament in.

On the Palette end, you may be able to DIY a solution although this isn’t recommended because the tube connects to Palette with the brass piece near the scroll wheel. Without a tube in that area, it will likely jam before leaving the Palette.

Is there any particular reason why you wanted to use festo fittings instead?

I was only considering a festo plug on the printer end. There's already a fitting to accept it on the print head, so if I can put a plug onto the printer end of the tube I don't need to change anything on the printer.

MMU2S users already have the festo fitting on the print head as the standard method of attaching the tube so I think this might be a fairly common question.
