Why did my Palatte2SPro cancel print job suddenly after printing <10%?

Why did my Palatte 2S Pro cancel my print job suddenly after printing <10%?

I tried multiple times and it seemed to stop at around the same spot. NO ERROR message on CANVAS Hub S except the CANCELLING message, then I have to hit OK to FINISH but INCOMPLETE. (refer to attached screenshots)

Update (08/18/2020)

I have tried the keychain calibration print after tuning the Extruder Steps per mm but it also FAILED with the same issue.

The Ping & Pong Statistics started with 85.87% Ping 1 and dropped to 77.96% Ping 2, it kept 72.79% Ping 4 onwards but suddenly dropped to 46.09% Ping 14.

I checked the previous Ping & Pong Statistics and similarly it also happened to all my previous prints.

Why would it drop so much suddenly? What was causing it?

Did I miss anything else?

Thx.

Update (08/19/2020)

I have followed and calibrated my extruder accordingly before adding Palette (https://mattshub.com/blog/2017/04/19/ext...),

except the extrusion multiplier. But this issue still happened, please refer to my last update.

Where do I set the extrusion multiplier? in CANVAS Slicer?

Will it affect my print like this issue?

According to the instruction for printing the calibration keychain - Connected Mode Calibration Print, I have 2 questions below:

Step 2 Slice Your Calibration Keychain

Slice this calibration keychain in CANVAS, or use Chroma if you'd like to use Simplify3D, Cura, KISSlicer, Slic3r/PrusaSlicer as your slicer.

Colour the model by dragging and dropping your colour onto the STL filenames. For a tutorial on how to prepare a file in CANVAS, please see here.

Please do not resize the keychain or use the Paint feature.

2. But your link only provide 2 stl files instead of 4. How to colour the calibration keychain without other stl files and not using the Paint feature?:

I have also updated the question with all the screen shots.

Update (08/24/2020)

Hi Alina

My Key Chain Calibration print is getting WORSE (only 1 looked better out of 6). I decide to continue in this question for this issue. I will provide the Ping & Pong Statistics, screenshots and photos.

How could I be sure that my SETUP is CORRECT? Are you referring to Printer and Style Profiles? OR something else?

I refer to my previous questions. Do I need to adjust the extrusion multiplier in CANVAS Style Profiles or historical multiplier in Palette or BOTH?:

Hi Alina

Here are the Ping & Pong Statistics, screenshots and photos. As you can see it's quality is getting worse and worse even though they are sliced from the SAME model.

Only #141 looks a bit better but still with color misaligned as compare with the model. I have also included the share links for your investigation. Please check and confirm what has gone wrong ASAP. Thx:

Hey @tang8555, this is likely due to the “enable cancel print on ping variation” advanced setting you have enabled. When the difference between pings is greater than 8% as you have set, your print will get cancelled. You can turn off this setting if you would like the print to finish, but we would recommend on working to get your pings within 1-2% of each other. Larger variation than that will cause miscalibration (colours in the wrong places). Please follow the instructions here to run your keychain calibration print (please remember to reset Palette to factory defaults before running a new keychain calibration print) and send us the results to support@mosaicmfg.com so we can help you get calibrated properly. Thanks!

Thx for your prompt answer.

Did you miss the link somewhere 'follow the instructions here ......'?

I will try to run the keychain calibration print. Thx.

by

Sorry, I have been reading everything about calibrations and does not want to go astray here.

Which area do you think is causing the HIGH ping variation? Extruder speed?

Does it mean that the Palette is pushing more length of filaments than the Extruder can consume?

I thought Palette would compensate this variation with its buffering system. Am I correct?

It started quite perfectly after I fine tuned the Loading Offset. Should I focus on fixing the Historical Modifier now?

Thx.

by

Hey @tang8555, sorry about that! I did miss a link, and just edited it in. With ping variation, there can be many causes. It means that your printer is not extruding consistently, as pings are a measure of how much filament your extruder pulled versus how much was expected according to the GCode. The first thing we recommend is always to calibrate your extruder before adding Palette (https://mattshub.com/blog/2017/04/19/ext...). Then, we recommend making sure that your setup is correct - you are using the shortest outgoing tube possible, there are minimal bends in the tube, and the filament always in a constrained path (always in a tube). Please send us photos of your setup to support@mosaicmfg.com so we can assess. Lastly, please make sure that the calibration keychain was printed correctly as in mm3d.co/firstprint

I’m having the same issue. Is there a way to test the ping latency to determine the percentage increase as 8% fails the last three test prints.

Hey @dcwalmsley, if your pings are not consistent, the first thing to do would be to calibrate your extruder, as I mentioned in the comment above, and make sure that your setup is correct. Please send us photos of your setup, with a focus on the filament path, to support@mosaicmfg.com and we can go from there! Photos of the calibration print, including the tower, and associated ping data, would also be very helpful.

by

I have observed the SAME issue too. I ended up DISABLING this option as the default 8% ALWAYS STOPPED the print. Also as I looked at the Ping & Pong Statistics so far, they ALWAYS have a couple EXCEEDED 8%. I am NOT sure if this is only happening at the beginning or persistent! My Key Chain Calibration print is getting WORSE (only 1 looked better out of 6). I will create another question for this issue.

How could I be sure that my SETUP is CORRECT? Are you referring to Printer and Style Profiles? OR something else?

by

The setup is referring to step 4 of mm3d.co/firstprint - you want to make sure that you are using the shortest tube possible, there are no bends in the tube on the way to extruder, that the extruder clip you are using is secure (there are other variants for different printers on Thingiverse), and that the filament is always constrained in a path.

by

@alina

All your suggestions are physical and they are ALL GOOD. Otherwise my keychain would not have completed that far.

It is suspicious why the option and default value (8%) - both provided by you, ALWAYS FAILED the Print Jobs.

Please refer to my previous puzzle below and confirm ASAP. Thx:

Hey @tang8555, thank you for sending the OctoPrint logs, we will take a look to see if there is anything particular causing your files not to be sent to the Hub page. In regards to the extrusion multiplier, you can use CANVAS as your slicer for this. In regards to the keychain, it is only supposed to be in 2 colours, so please go ahead and drag one of the coloured circles onto one of the STL filenames to get a dual coloured keychain without using the painting future. Please use a transition tower instead of side transitioning for the calibration. Lastly, please remember to reset Palette to factory defaults every time you try to print a new calibration keychain so Palette recognizes that this is your first print (Settings —> Preferences —> Reset). If you would like to send me further information to alina@mosaicmfg.com to make this a bit easier, I’d be glad to help. Thanks!

If I have to reset Palette to factory defaults every time I try to print a new calibration keychain so Palette recognizes that this is my first print (Settings —> Preferences —> Reset), then I lost my Printer Settings and also historical statistics. So how can it learns from my historical prints? Thx.

by

Yes, resetting Palette to factory defaults will delete your printer profile on Palette. This is what we want if the keychain did not turn out correctly. Once you get a good keychain print, then please do not reset to factory defaults as you will want to keep this information. If you are having trouble with calibration, I would please encourage you to email me at alina@mosaicmfg.com so we can go through all the steps together, as the multiple threads and comments have become a bit hard to navigate. Let me know!

The WORST part is that the ENTIRE Print Process (Model > Colouring > Slicing > Slice File Transfer > Colour Control > Print Control) is UNCONTROLLABLE, UNPREDICTABLE, UNACCEPTABLE ...... despite of ALL COMPONENTS (except the 3D Printer) are your PRODUCTS.

You can email me on tang8555@gmail.com if needed. I find this forum is quite useful and a better channel. Thx.

I still have questions for Mosaic Support on this. But they could not provide any solutions still:

Which area do you think is causing the HIGH ping variation?

Unfortunately, to date I still have not succeeded in printing their Calibration Keychain yet!

I believe there is no alternative but to turn OFF this option if you first start to use Palette and CANVAS Hub and going through the Calibration Keychain process:

I have observed the SAME issue too. I ended up DISABLING this option as the default 8% ALWAYS STOPPED the print. ……… My Key Chain Calibration print is getting WORSE ……..

I am EXTREMELY disappointed on ALL the EXPENSIVE Mosaic products and Mosaic Support so far.

They certainly do NOT perform up to the STANDARD or their CLAIMS.

There is NO PRODUCTIVE advice from Mosaic Support so far which HELPS.

There is NO IMPROVEMENT on my 3D-Print so far, in fact, it is TOTALLY HALTED.

At the moment I am still trying to answer Mosaic Support requests to print their Calibration Keychain Model BUT ALL FAILED!

Should it be that DIFFICULT to get ALL their GEARS to work together and print their Calibration Keychain Model FULLY & SUCCESSFULLY?

ALL THE GEARS except the 3DP are Mosaic PRODUCTS including the Calibration Keychain Model & SLICING SOFTWARE!

The WORST part is that the ENTIRE Print Process (Model > Colouring > Slicing > Slice File Transfer > Colour Control > Print Control) is UNCONTROLLABLE, UNPREDICTABLE, UNACCEPTABLE ......

despite of ALL COMPONENTS (except the 3D Printer) are Mosaic PRODUCTS.

I HAVE NOT STARTED TO PRINT ANYTHING OF MY OWN YET!
