Using cavas hub with and without Palette or Canvas

Hey everyone, I’m new to the site and to Palette. I have a Makergear M2 and have been printing for about 6 years. I have used simplify3d from day 1 and when I saw Palette 2’s were deeply discounted I decided to buy one, with the thought that I could still use S3D with it. Now that I have it, I’m doing more than the superficial research I did before the impulse-buy and have concerns about how easy this will be to integrate into my tried-and-true workflow. I am very familiar with S3D, and would prefer not to have to learn a whole new program if possible, but if there is a good solution for single material prints sans-Palette, as well as multi prints with the Palette, I’m open to suggestions?

Up front, I exclusively print over USB cable from my desktop, because I like to be able to make tweaks to the print while its printing if I have concerns. I know I can do this with my printer’s display but my preference is through the s3d terminal. I also redesigned the electronics enclosure, and since I didn’t use the SD card slot, I removed it, and so there isn’t a method for using the SD card for printing (without a lot of hassle, and reprinting my rather large electronics enclosure).

It sounds like for me to eliminate the use of SD cards with either the printer OR the Pallette, I will need to set up a canvas hub and print wirelessly AND to make things less finicky, slice multi-material prints in canvas. This is tolerable, but my concern is how easy (or possible?) it will still be to slice single material prints in S3D and stream them over the canvas hub without involving the Palette OR Canvas?

Any help or suggestions would be incredible

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy!

Thank you for your purchase of Palette. If you are encountering issues using Simplify3D with your P2, I would suggest using Chroma (Chroma V3.2.2) which is a downloadable, offline software that creates print files for Palette and your printer using GCode sliced by Simplify3D, Cura, Slic3r, or KISSlicer. Another slicer that you could use that works seamlessly with P2 is our own slicer Canvas (https://canvas3d.io).

Additionally, if you are unable to use an SD card, I would recommend purchasing a Canvas Hub. Another potential option is creating a DIY Hub! (Setup Guide: DIY CANVAS Hub (OctoPi + CANVAS and P2 Plugins))
