Control Palette 3 via UART over USB

TLDR: Does the Palette 3 support UART over USB, such as the Palette 2?

—————

More explaination:

I know that the Palette 3 has an integrated operating system that is network capable but:

My questions is, will it be possible to control or better said synchronize the Palette 3 via USB Serial such as it is possible with the Palette 2?

I have read have read the answer to the Question “Palette 3 and Octoprint“ and the answer was not completely clear:

Will this not be possible, because you will not invest time to create a plugin to control the Palette 3, or is there simply no way to send commands to the Palette 3 via USB?

In short, i want to communicate with the Palette 3 without the usage of Canvas (as it was possible with the Palette 2) - is this technically possible?

I am aware that you would not provide software support, i am talking about a pure theoretical possibility, that for example could look like that the Palette 3 would present its USB as serial device.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hey Ronny, at this time, it wouldn’t be possible with P3. However, I have forwarded this request to our team and it may be a possibility in the future.

I would also like to see this feature. All of my printers at the moment utilize Klipper and at the moment, I haven’t really figured out a way to use my P3 other than in accessory mode.

Again, another feature removed from a 3rd gen device. Klipper has been gaining steam and become a great competitor to Marlin, yet they drop support? Makes zero sense.

Seems like the P3 is a step forward with the 8 filament capability, but has taken several leaps backwards in capability. :(

With all my printers running Klipper, I feel I have purchased an $800 paper weight. I have yet to print anything with it and I refuse to downgrade a printer to Marlin just to use the P3P. No Klipper support. No stand-alone Chroma so we are dependent on an internet connection and their servers. Can’t upload proprietary models for slicing since that would be a violation of the licensing. Luckily my P2P and P2 are still working.

Hey ElmoC, you can still use Klipper printers in Accessory mode (mm3d.co/p3-accessory). Also, if you'd like an offline slicing option, there's also the P2PP plugin for PrusaSlicer (mm3d.co/p2pp).

by

Well, P2PP seems a major waste of time. Tried setting it up and getting warnings about short splices. No matter the settings I use, I get the warnings. And I don't use Facebook. It is blocked on my network.

And for Accessory mode, this doesn't give me much faith...

If you're getting this error, it would be best to increase your transition lengths.

by

I have extended the transition lengths to over 300 on both loading and unloading and was still getting the error on some models. I had no problem printing those models on my P2P using Chroma.

by

@elmoc Can you please share your start GCode sequence? There is a section in the manual on Purge/Wipe length. You need to set these values again each time you restart Prusa slicer as they are not kept: https://github.com/tomvandeneede/p2pp/bl...

Agreed with all above, the P3P is a capable device, but it is lacking the interface tools that would really let this device shine in the hands of people willing to invest the time to integrate into their setup.

I have just received the Palette 3, and it is very annoying not to be able to control via a serial port with klipper.

Is there an update to get the same functionality as the Palette 2?

In fact, P3P has already integrated Raspberry Pi, and adding Klipper is a very simple thing in theory, but they need to open more user permissions to the basic application level. And this may let their underlying programs flow out.

I just received my 3P yesterday and already seeing all the shortcoming of this device I am ready to send it back. This thing won't even print a single color print. Not all prints need to be multicolor. SMH

The development team does not want to make the device more compatible and easy to use, but wants to promote its own web version slice (ambition)
