Palette 3 and Octoprint
Is Palette 3 compatible with Octoprint? I plan on purchasing a Palette soon, but if 3 is not compatible I will have to go with 2.
Is this a good question?

Hi Jaxx, Palette 3 will not be compatible with OctoPrint, but you will be able to use many of the same functions within Canvas such as controlling your Palette and printer, monitoring calibration information, and remotely starting prints. In the past, we’ve seen that updates to OctoPrint can negatively affect the plugins, so we are now better able to control the user experience.

Hi Jonny,
I don't really understand what you are saying.
Will Octoprint be obsolete when using a Palette 3 Pro?
Regards,
Martijn
Hi Martijn, you'd be unable to use OctoPrint with Palette 3. However, Canvas will offer a similar connected experience, where you'll be able to control the printer and Palette via the Canvas interface.
Unfortunately a similar experience is not going to be enough. My printer is 100% ran through Octoprint. Octoprint turns on my printer. In order to get this to work I would have to make canvas hub run through Octoprint which sounds like a nightmare. I strongly recommend that the Mosaic team figure out the kinks and get the Palette 3 running with Octoprint. It's a great product in theory, but they're knee-capping themselves by excluding a nearly universally used platform in the 3d printing community.
Dear Martijn,
i pre-ordered the palette3, but know i decide to cancel the order. I am not willing to change all of my workflow (physical & electronical) "only" for color-option. There should be better integrated solutions in the near future. Sad to wait for my color-prints, but changing the environment only for one Product is not an option...

I agree, not having OctoPrint support makes me want to cancel my order and get my money back. Huge oversite on Mosaic’s part. As one of the most active plugin developers, can you tell me if it’s even possible at all through some canvas API? I would love to assist in any way to get this integration functional again.
I’ve just found out that it will not be supported in Octoprint for some reason, i think i’ll be asking for my money back as this is my only option.

I was seriously looking at this until I found out Octoprint is not supported. I have seen a lot of “we are working on having canvas support this or that” or “Canvas supports many of the same features”. Well, many of the same features isn’t all of the features and working on isn’t the same as currently has. Sorry, not spending this kind of money for something that can’t be used with one of the most popular application/devices in 3D printing.

Without Octoprint support the very expensive range is only worth a quarter (or less) of what it currently costs.
With Octoprint I currently have two webcams running (2xLogitech), additional TP plugin and addrssed GPIOs that control light along with Telegram plugin.
Sorry but the Canvas "....many of the same functions..." lol … You should rethink a little ...

Last week I put an order in for a Palette 3 Pro after watching a video on how to setup the Palette 2 with OctoPrint. I had thought why not go for the P3 Pro for twice more color. Now, I am rethinking my decision and contemplating canceling the P3 Pro from the order I have placed with Repkord.
Very disappointing to hear the P3 Pro will not be able to work with OctoPrint!

Hi David! I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed. However, Canvas has many of the same features as Octoprint. If you have any questions, please contact us at support@mosaicmfg.com!
I have a hard time believing this with the large plugin ecosystem of OctoPrint. Does canvas have Bed Level Visualizer or The Spaghetti Detective support? Can I watch my printer through a webcam using Canvas?
Expecting my Palette 3 Pro to be delivered tomorrow and prepping for how to set it up with Octoprint I discover this thread... Very disappointing. I agree with others. I have an extensively tuned Octoprint with plugins that control all aspects of my printer; turning it on when a print starts, off when done -- both via smart plugs, print monitoring with webcams -- both on my local network and remote, push notifications of print status, Octolapse(!), etc. I have to give all the up now?
Hi jineilliii, we do plan on having webcam support shortly and plan to continue to develop features based on user's feedback. I'll pass on the request for a bed level visualizer and spaghetti monitoring.
I have canceled my P3Pro order with Repkord.
It’s all well and good to say the pallette can use canvas but for a lot of people this product will be used in a work scenario and like my work it has a sign in network to access the internet so this renders your product pretty much useless!!

We are working on allowing for sign-in networks to work with P3, but these same networks caused issues with OctoPrint and the Canvas Hub plugins. Previously, you would have had to SSH into the Hub in order to change the credential information, and it would still cause issues. By moving to Canvas, we're better able to address these types of problems.
How about NDA's where the design, stl/gcode is not allowed to exist on any equipment outside of the local network environment?
Hey Bart, we currently have our privacy information within Canvas when you press the account button (top right corner) then Privacy Policy
Palette 3 Pro is not running Octoprint. So for me it doesn´t matter cause i´m young and flexibel enough with an age of 50, to adopt new sceneries :-)
I´ll love the Palette 3Pro and i got it yesterday ...
Best, Thorsten
Palette 3 Pro is not running Octoprint, I need Octoprint's terminal to level my bed. I have Dual Z & UBL. I got a cheap USB Switching device and in the Firmware I changed "Z Motor always on" so, when I switch over to P3P, The Z Motors are always engaged. Now, It's very easy to integrate both devices, I just wish some of the programing could be interchangeable between the two. For now, I'm very happy.
What is the update on this problem, and yes it is a problem that you do not support one of the most popular addon’s for 3d printer. I should have researched this more but I assumed you were a company who would not short the customer with all the decent reviews. I just purchased my 3 pro from Amazon, so I certainly can return it if you are not going to support OctoPrint.

There are two reasons for me considering to return this device:
- Incomplete OctoPrint integration
- Being locked down to the canvas.io web-based slicer
So at the end of the day pretty useless.
So glad I went with the 2S! Seeing now the Pallete 3 requires internet access I could never even consider upgrading.
Mosaic team: For any privacy or security conscious customer, you cannot expect to sell an internet only device; it must be compatible with offline network access or its a non-starter.

Hey Jam, just to clarify, you can use P3 without internet access. You just would not be able to use features like sending files directly from Canvas.
